Roxanne Diaz - Senior Project Manager, Flatiron Health
When her single mother left Peru in search of work, Roxanne went to live with her grandparents. Many years later, after finishing high school, Roxanne was able to get documentation to join her mother in Miami, Florida. “I had a feeling there was more out there, so I left everything I knew behind - my family, my roots and my culture.” Roxanne enrolled in Miami Dade Community College where she joined the honors track. Still feeling that “there was more out there”, she decided in her sophomore year to apply to Stanford University after hearing about it in class. When she arrived at Stanford she first declared an environmental science major, but soon switched to biology: “I was so clueless that I didn’t suffer from imposter syndrome - I just tuned out all the external noise.” Today, Roxanne uses her biology skills to work in health tech, an exciting new field that uses technology to innovate healthcare. She is a product manager at Flatiron Health, a company that works to improve the quality of cancer treatment and care by connecting patients, researchers, doctors and hospitals on a shared technology platform.
