Natasha Robinson, Search Engine Opt Roku
Natasha grew up in the Bronx to Jamaican immigrants whose favorite saying was, "If it's in a book, you can teach yourself!" This focus on self-driven education helped her earn a scholarship to one of the country's best all-girls schools. When Natasha struggled to keep up, her father - who only had a 7th grade education - would teach himself her lessons and then tutor her. Later, to help raise awareness of the challenges for other low-income students, Natasha founded Students Advocating for Young Children (SAYC), a group that continues today as a support program for high-need elementary students. Self-driven education led Natasha to her current field of Search Engine Optimization: understanding how search engines like Google work, what people search for, and how. When she started in SEO, there were no classes and few resources to learn online, so Natasha taught herself. Today, Natasha is a Senior SEO Marketing Manager at Roku Inc and has worked on almost 100 websites, including some of the world’s most popular websites in television: FOX, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, The Daily Show, American Idol, South Park, Nickelodeon. And technology: Roku, TripAdvisor, Salesforce, MySpace.
